Unix Partition

Filed under: Unix — sidhant @ 8:56 am

For Unix operating systems like Linux and Mac OS X, the creation of partitions for all files under the root directory is possible. The same rule is applicable for Sun operating systems, but their partitions are called slices. Scheme has potential advantages like if one file system gets corrupted, the rest of the data will not corrupt, in Unix partitions the execution of seduid files disabled which tends in enhancing security and performance. This method has the difficulty of sub-dividing the drive into fixed size Unix partitions. Typical home systems are often comprised of a single “/” (root directory) which contain the full file system. The Mac OS X computer use a single root directory contains the entire file system.
